The Partnership

It is a great privilege to raise money for such an important cause and help in funding important research to combat breast cancer.  I have followed Chris Spielman since he appeared on a Wheaties Box before he enrolled as a freshman at Ohio State.  I remember watching his first game vs. Oregon State and hearing afterwards how he was driving Coach Bruce nuts on the sidelines wanting to get in the game.  We were trailing 14-3 and Chris Spielman entered the game and injected his signature dose of heart and energy to help the Buckeyes find their mojo and win the game.  I will never forget the Iowa game in 1985.  When Chris Spielman was asked about the fact that the Buckeyes were a one point underdog at home, he replied with his typical swagger, "It feels like a knife in the heart.  Saturday we pull the knife out."  Chris played the game of a lifetime that day and led the Buckeyes to an upset over the #1 Hawkeyes.  Chris Spielman became the standard bearer for what we expect from linebackers at Ohio State.

The strength that Chris and Stefanie showed during her battle with breast cancer provided an example for everyone on how families can work through anything together.  The genuine love and emotion displayed by Chris and his family have become the model for what I strive to be as a husband and father.  It is an honor beyond words to have one of my childhood heroes, Chris Spielman, endorse my books and allow me to pay forward and share in this cause.

The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute

I am always so proud each year to share the incredible progress being made by The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James).  The researchers and clinicians work tirelessly every day to develop new and innovative treatment options for patients through research, drug development and clinical trials. This would not be possible without the incredible support of our Columbus community and from friends across the country that share my family’s commitment to finding a cure.

Paying It Forward

Paying It Forward

As the great OSU Football Coach Woody Hayes always encouraged, we owe it to ourselves and to others to pay it forward. My wife Stefanie believed passionately that her disease was given to her so that she could help others. I believe she paid it forward every day from the moment she was diagnosed.  We are grateful that as of 2014, more than $15 million dollars have been raised to support the Spielman Fund thanks to supporters, like you, who believe in paying it forward. Through that generosity, the OSUCCC – James has the ability to reach new heights with breast cancer research, patient care and training for our future cancer experts.

Thank you for supporting the cause through the purchase of this book.

God Bless,

How firm thy friendship

How firm thy friendship

Family is very important to me.  My family is not just my immediate family, but the team of doctors, nurses, caregivers and staff at the OSUCCC – James and those of you that have joined me in the fight against cancer. We faced Stefanie’s battle as a family. It wasn’t her cancer, it was our cancer. We fought tirelessly trying to beat this dreaded foe and while we suffered a great loss when she passed, we continue to fight for a cure.  We haven’t yet defeated cancer and I don’t want my daughters, nieces, mother, sisters-in-law, friends or any others to hear the words “you have breast cancer”.

By purchasing this book, you are now part of our family so Thank You!  Together, we will create a cancer-free world.

God Bless,
